Board Issues Public Statement
October 16, 2012
The Cuyahoga Heights Schools and the Board of Education thank the Ohio Auditor of State, David Yost, and State and Federal law enforcement officers for their hard work and dedication in completing the Special Audit and investigating the theft that has victimized the District. Needless to say, the District is very disturbed by the Special Audit’s findings.
The Board of Education, the new Superintendent, and the new Treasurer have already implemented corrective measures to prevent this type of loss from occurring in the future. Further, the Board of Education has begun the process to recover the stolen funds from the individuals and entities identified in the Special Audit, none of which are current employees of the District.
Due to the ongoing criminal investigation into the theft, neither the Board, nor any District employees, can comment further on these issues.
Technology Department Audit Released
October 16, 2012
Earlier this afternoon, the Ohio Auditor of State, Dave Yost, released the Cuyahoga Heights Schools' Special Audit related to the Technology Department investigation. This Special Audit analyzed district financial transactions for the time period of July 1, 2007 through February 22, 2011. The Special Audit can be found at:
While the findings are disturbing, it is good to finally learn the details and to move to the next phase of the investigation: pursuing criminal charges and pursuing civil action to reclaim any and all lost assets.
The Board of Education will issue a statement regarding the audit findings during their regular meeting, Wednesday, October 17, 2012, in the high school's Paul Baumgardner Auditorium. The meeting will begin at 7:00 pm. Please note the change in location for this meeting. This statement will be recorded and placed on our website at www.cuyhts.org, under "District News."
Additionally, a special Community Dialogue meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 in the high school's Paul Baumgardner Auditorium at 6:30 pm. The Superintendent and Treasurer will provide details of the Special Audit findings, outline the action taken to correct and prevent this type of suspected fraud and theft, and the steps taken to reclaim lost assets. The Community Dialogue will be recorded and shown on our website at www.cuyhts.org, under "District News."
Please try to join us for the Community Dialogue.
Yours in Education,
Dr. Edwin S. Holland
