Class Description:
Social Studies in fourth grade focuses on the state of Ohio from the early days of our landform formation to current Ohio events. Geography and map skills start the year. Studying early natives in the Ohio area with prehistoric and historic Native American tribes and their relationship to the land and natural resources of our state is a highlight of the year. We then move to the influence of European settlers and ethnic groups in our area and how past and present immigrants help shape our state. The study of government at the local, state, and federal level and economics finishes our curriculum. In fifth grade, the focus becomes the history of the United States, starting with the Native American tribes throughout the New World, and the early European explorers and the influence each had in the regions of the United States. The fight for Independence is studied in depth as well as slavery and immigrant contributions. The study of the government on the federal level is this year's focus. Continued work in economics, geography, and map skills is also included
