Social Studies Pilot
We are currently piloting new Social Studies textbooks and various resources through Houghton Mifflin. Teachers have been using these materials since March 2013. Social Studies textbooks, along with additional resources, are available to preview in the Bahner-Ray Media Center through May 15, 2013. CHES Field Day
Student Council Field Day is scheduled for Friday, May 31. Students in kindergarten through fifth grade will be involved in fun-filled, outdoor activities. Please remind children to dress for the weather, wear appropriate shoes, a hat/cap, and bring a water bottle and wear sunscreen. The rain date will be Monday, June 3.

Art and Young Authors' Fair
This year’s Art and Young Authors’ Fair will be held on Thursday, May 16, in the elementary school. This will be an excellent opportunity for our community to enjoy a collection of creativity. Families are encouraged to stroll through the elementary gymnasium and hallways between 5:45 and 7:00 p.m. to experience an exquisite array of art and admire lovable literature that our students have created throughout the year. All are invited to walk over to the high school auditorium for an excellent elementary music concert at 7:00 p.m. We hope to see you there for an enlightening evening of elementary entertainment!

Spring Concert

Our Spring Concert is scheduled for Thursday, May 16, at 7:00 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Your child will receive an end-of-the-year letter with the schedule for May. If you did not receive one, please ask your child. Please encourage playing at home because I want every child to be proud of their accomplishments this year in strings! I need several additional parents to help backstage before the dress rehearsal and the concert. Please call or e-mail me at jpitman@cuyhts.org if you are available.

Student Council
February is Heart Health Month! From February 4-22, the students at CHES, in cooperation with The American Heart Association, will be participating in Jump Rope for Heart. All students in grades K-5 will receive a donation envelope with instructions on collecting donations. Students will be jumping rope during their PE class on February 19-21. Students can register online at www.heart.org/jump. Just follow the on screen instructions to register with our school.

Invention Convention
On Friday, December 7, 2012, the north gym of Cuyahoga Heights High School will host the CHES Invention Convention and CHMS Contraption Fair.

One Warm Coat
The Student Council and CHS PTO will again be collecting new or lightly used coats for the "One Warm Coat" drive. Donation boxes will be in the front hallway by Miss Newkirk's office beginning Monday, November 26. The collection will run through Friday, December 21.

Pre-Kindergarten Student Registration 2013-2014
Student registration for the Cuyahoga Heights Schools’ Pre-Kindergarten Program is now open for the 2013-2014 school year. Children who will be four years old on or before September 30, 2013 are eligible for the pre-kindergarten program. If you have a child, or know of a child in our school district that is eligible to attend next year, please call the elementary school office at 216-429-5880 to make an appointment for registration. The Pre-Kindergarten program is open only to school district residents and there is no charge for the 2013-2014 school year.

PTO Scholastic Book Fair
The Scholastic Book Fair will begin on Tuesday, December 4 and run through Friday, December 7. Students will visit the book fair during their scheduled library time. Parents and grandparents are welcome to shop with their children during their scheduled time.

Fire Safety Week
Fifth grade students were challenged to draw up a fire escape plan for their homes and/or write a paragraph detailing the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. Winners were determined by Mr. Harris and the Cuyahoga Heights Fire Department. On Monday, November 12, Abbie Szendrey won a $25 iTunes gift card for her fire escape plan and Anthony Zahtilla won an iTunes gift card for his paragraph on the Great Chicago Fire
