We are currently piloting new Social Studies textbooks and various resources through Houghton Mifflin.  Teachers have been using these materials since March 2013.  Social Studies textbooks, along with additional resources, are available to preview in the Bahner-Ray Media Center through May 15, 2013. Student Council Field Day is scheduled for Friday, May 31.  Students in kindergarten through fifth grade will be involved in fun-filled, outdoor activities.  Please remind children to dress for the weather, wear appropriate shoes, a hat/cap, and bring a water bottle and wear sunscreen.  The rain date will be Monday, June 3.

This year’s Art and Young Authors’ Fair will be held on Thursday, May 16, in the elementary school.  This will be an excellent opportunity for our community to enjoy a collection of creativity.  Families are encouraged to stroll through the elementary gymnasium and hallways between 5:45 and 7:00 p.m. to experience an exquisite array of art and admire  lovable literature that our students have created throughout the year.   All are invited to walk over to the high school auditorium for an excellent elementary music concert at 7:00 p.m.  We hope to see you there for an enlightening evening of elementary entertainment!

Our Spring Concert is scheduled for Thursday, May 16, at 7:00 p.m. in the high school auditorium.   Your child will receive an end-of-the-year letter with the schedule for May.  If you did not receive one, please ask your child.     Please encourage playing at home because I want every child to be proud of their accomplishments this year in strings!  I need several additional parents to help backstage before the dress rehearsal and the concert.  Please call or e-mail me at jpitman@cuyhts.org if you are available.

Learn To Swim classes start April 20th.........

The Pool will be closed for open swim on Tuesday, March 26th and Thursday, March 28th

The pool and Fitness Center will be closed on Saturday, March 23rd for the Art Fest

The pool will be closed on Tuesday, March 19th, Wednesday, March 20th and Thursday, March 21st  for evening open swim.  The pool will re-open on Monday, March 25th.

Please join our third grade "Rock Stars" on Friday, February 22 at 2:15 for the play Third Grade Rocks! Don't be "sedimentary" and come get your "igneous" on in the elementary school gym. It will be a "metamorphic" experience! 

February is Heart Health Month! From February 4-22, the students at CHES, in cooperation with The American Heart Association, will be participating in Jump Rope for Heart. All students in grades K-5 will receive a donation envelope with instructions on collecting donations. Students will be jumping rope during their PE class on February 19-21. Students can register online at www.heart.org/jump. Just follow the on screen instructions to register with our school.

Registration for students enrolling in pre-kindergarten during the 2013-2014 school year will take place on Friday, February 22.  If you have a child, or know of a child in our school district that is eligible to attend next year, please call the elementary school office at 216-429-5880 to make an appointment for registration.

Student registration for the Cuyahoga Heights Schools’ Pre-Kindergarten Program is now open for the 2013-2014 school year.  Children who will be four years old on or before September 30, 2013 are eligible for the pre-kindergarten program.  If you have a child, or know of a child in our school district that is eligible to attend next year, please call the elementary school office at 216-429-5880 to make an appointment for registration.  The Pre-Kindergarten program is open only to school district residents and there is no charge for the 2013-2014 school year.

When there is a new baby born in the district, we would like to know about it.  Please send the following information to the Superintendent's Office or call 429-5700:  name and address of the parents and name and birth date of the baby.  Thank you!

Calling all artists, crafters, and friends of the arts!  The tenth Annual Arts Festival will be March 23 from 10:00—3:00 p.m.  The art festival will showcase many talents from our students, community, and friends.  We will hold a “battle of the bands” and a “poetry slam” as well.  Our very family-oriented event will include food, entertainment, and a variety of hands-on activities for all ages

Grades Kg – 5 will be participating in swimming during their physical education classes from February 25 through March 15. Please be sure to send your child to school with the appropriate swim apparel.
